Description

Align two Vertices or Curves to match their continuity. Supports spline, polyline, geometric curves with control over their parameter position and constraints.

Basic Usage

  1. Select the target Vertex to move, then select the reference Vertex to align to.
  2. Type Edge Align in the Command Palette.
  3. Set the options in the Command Dialog.
    • Command Dialog
      • Continuity: G0, G1, G2 Specify the continuity of the Surface.
        • Continuity can be specified individually by clicking on the black circles on the surface.
      • Tension: Defines the tension of the continuity of the aligned curve - G1, G2, and G3.
        • G1 / G2 / G3: Specify the CV continuity distance.
      • Partial Alignment: Allows you to align only a portion of the curve. You can specify the start and end points of the alignment using the sliding Gizmo handles on the curve.
        • Parameter: Defines the position of the aligned object within the geometry's parameter space.
      • Show Curvature: Enables curvature visualization. You can adjust the curvature comb size in the Curvature menu.
      • Create Constraints: Creates constraints on the aligned curve to maintain the specified continuity and allows for further adjustments. You can edit these constraints in the Constraints menu.
    • Keyboard Shortcuts
      • D G1 Tension: Adjust the tension of the G1 continuity.
      • C Create constraints: Create a constraint relationship with the aligned curve, allowing for further adjustments.
      • P Partial Alignment: Enable partial alignment, allowing you to align only a portion of the curve.
      • Tab Cycle continuity: Cycle through continuity options.
  4. Confirm with OK in the Command Dialog or right-click.

Selection Methods

Selection methods let you control how objects are aligned when things get more complex, such as when multiple vertices overlap or when many curves are present in the scene.

The alignment process works the same as in Basic Usage, but you can choose from three methods to decide how objects are selected and aligned.

Vertex Align

  • Ctrl + Shift Pop-up Method

    • Hold Ctrl + Shift and left-click on the target vertex. A pop-up menu will appear listing all curves connected to that vertex. Hover over each entry to highlight its curve, then click to confirm the target vertex.
To select the reference vertex, repeat the process but hold Shift when clicking in the menu to finalize the selection.
  • Mouse Scroll Method

    • Left-click and hold on a vertex, then scroll the mouse wheel to cycle through the curves sharing that vertex.

Curve Align

  • Edge Selection Mode
    • In Edge selection mode, Plasticity automatically determines which end of the curve to align based on the nearest vertex or segment to your click. The same logic applies when selecting the reference curve.
