Description
Assign material to selected Solids and Sheets. Group material influences contained objects. Curves are affected by color and opacity. Image depth and opacity can be adjusted through material.
Set a Material for Objects
- Select the Solids, Sheets, Curves you want to set the mmaterial for.
- Press M.
- Set the options in the commnad dialog.
-
Command Dialog
- Color: Specify the base color of the material.
- Roughness: Specify the roughness of the material's surface. A value of
0means the surface is perfectly smooth, while a value of1means the surface is very rough. - Metalness: Controls how metallic the material appears. A value of
0means the material is non-metallic, while a value of1means the material is fully metallic. - IOR: Specify the Index of Refraction, which controls how light bends as it passes through the material. A value of
1.0represents air, while higher values represent denser materials like glass (1.5) or diamond (2.4). - Opacity: Specify the degree to which the material is transparent or opaque.
-
Advanced Menu
- Clearcoat: Adds an extra layer of specular reflection on top of the base material. Useful for materials like car paint.
- Clearcoat roughness: Specify the roughness of the clearcoat layer.
- Sheen color: Specify the color of the sheen layer.
- Sheen: Adds a soft velvet-like reflection near the Edges of the material, simulating materials such as cloth.
- Sheen roughness: Specify the roughness of the sheen layer.
- Specular color: Specify the color of the specular reflection.
- Specular intensity: Controls the intensity of the specular reflection.
- Iridescence: Controls the strength of an iridescent effect, simulating thin-film interference as seen on soap bubbles or oil slicks.
- Iridescence IOR: Specify the Index of Refraction of the iridescent thin-film layer.
- Thickness: Specify the thickness of the material.
- Transmission: Controls the degree to which the material allows light to pass through it.
- Density: Specify the material density using the units defined in the Units menu. The calculated mass will be displayed per object in the bottom right Selection Menu.
-
Command Dialog
- Confirm with OK in the Command Dialog or right-click.
Note: Transparent materials are now displayed with 50% transparency, even when using default and custom matcaps in non-render mode.
Set a Material for Groups
When you set a material for a group, the material is set for all objects in the group.
- Select the group you want to set the material for in the Outliner.
- Press M.
- Set the options in the command dialog.
- The options are the same as when setting a material for objects.
- Confirm with OK in the Command Dialog or right-click.
