Description

Align two Vertices or Curves to match their continuity. Supports spline, polyline, and geometric curves, with control over their parameter position.

Basic Usage

  1. Select the target Vertex to move, then select the reference Vertex to align to.
  2. Type Align in the Command Palette.
  3. Set the options in the Command Dialog.
    • Command Dialog
      • Parameter: Defines the position of the aligned object within the geometry's parameter space. Note that 0.5 does not always correspond to the halfway point.
      • Continuity: G0, G1, G2 Specify the continuity of the Surface.
        • Continuity can be specified individually by clicking on the black circles on the surface.
      • G1 / G2 / G3: Specify the CV continuity distance.
      • Show Curvature: Enables curvature visualization. You can adjust the curvature comb size in the Curvature menu.
    • Keyboard Shortcuts
      • Tab Cycle continuity: Cycle through continuity options.
  4. Confirm with OK in the Command Dialog or right-click.

Align Curve

Basic Usage

  1. Select the target Curve you want to move, then select the reference Curve you want to align to.
  2. Type Align in the Command Palette.
  3. Adjust the options in the Command Dialog.
    • These settings work the same way as in Align Vertex.
  4. Confirm with OK in the Command Dialog or right-click.

Note: When aligning polylines, they move as a rigid shape to match the reference point while keeping their length. You can toggle between G0 and G1 continuity, but this does not provide the full control of a CAD style constrained system.

Selection Methods

Selection methods let you control how objects are aligned when things get more complex, such as when multiple vertices overlap or when many curves are present in the scene.

The alignment process works the same as in Basic Usage, but you can choose from three methods to decide how objects are selected and aligned.

Align Vertex

  • Ctrl + Shift Pop-up Method

    • Hold Ctrl + Shift and left-click on the target vertex. A pop-up menu will appear listing all curves connected to that vertex. Hover over each entry to highlight its curve, then click to confirm the target vertex.
To select the reference vertex, repeat the process but hold Shift when clicking in the menu to finalize the selection.
  • Mouse Scroll Method

    • Left-click and hold on a vertex, then scroll the mouse wheel to cycle through the curves sharing that vertex.

Align Curve

  • Edge Selection Mode
    • In Edge selection mode, Plasticity automatically determines which end of the curve to align based on the nearest vertex or segment to your click. The same logic applies when selecting the reference curve.
